High School football players alone suffer around 67,000 concussion per year, these studies came from Time Magazines. Today I am going to talk about why we should reduce head to head contact, not only in the NFL, but in college, high school, and even little leagues like pop warner. And the effects from head to head contact. The problem is there are too many brain injuries in the sport of football, starting from as young as eight all the way to adulthood. Brain damage not only occurs during games but practices as well, during hitting drills, you won't just suffer from the painful hit but it will build up and can lead to brain disease or even death.
For example there was a former NFL player from the San Diego Chargers named Junior Seau who committed suicide and shot himself in the heart to preserve his brain to be studied by doctors. Doctors suspect that his brain damage lead him to commit suicide. Also a Kansas City Chiefs player named Jovan Belcher committed suicide from suffering brain damage.
Research shows from fox news explains how young athletes can suffer from this contact sport. Taking on too many concussions and mild traumatic brain injuries can cause brain diseases later in life. For example Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy and even Alzheimer's diseases. There should be strict fines and penalties for any athlete who try to put another athlete in any danger. Also highly protective gear should be available to all athletes and should constantly be checked in order to keep our athletes, friends and family safe.
